Yesterday, June 22, the European Union Awards Gala for Contribution to the Development of Civil Society 2022 was held.
Eight civil society organizations from the Republic of Moldova received awards for the implementation of EU-funded projects from the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova. Implementing their initiatives, public associations contributed to democratic changes in society, gender equality and supported the population in overcoming social crises.
As part of the Gala Ceremony of the European Union Prizes for Contribution to the Development of Civil Society 2022, the results and positive impact of the support provided by the European Union to civil society in Moldova, which is aimed at improving the quality of life of Moldovan citizens, strengthening the rule of law and improving the business environment, were noted.
The event was attended by the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Janis Mazeiks, the chairman of the Eastern Europe Foundation Sorin Mereacre, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps and public organizations. The event was also attended by the director of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova Alena Grossu and the administrative director of the organization Alexander Kleinerman.
The head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Janis Mazeiks, in his opening speech, said that the country’s civil society is an example of a proper response to the refugee crisis, as it “showed exceptional mobilization and showed that Moldova is indeed a small country with a big heart.”
The European Union Civil Society Award 2022 was awarded in the following categories:
– Stronger control
– A stronger society
– Stronger economy
– Stronger bonds
Four special awards were also given in the areas of confidence building, youth support, gender equality and social crisis response.
It should be reminded that the Gala ceremony of the European Union awards for contribution to the development of civil society was held for the third time.
