Today there was a meeting between the President of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Bilinkis, and the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu.
The President of the Community congratulated Mr. Vice Prime Minister on the fact that Moldova became a candidate country for the European Union and highly appreciated the contribution of the Foreign Ministry to this important process.
Nicu Popescu and Alexandru Bilinkis discussed a number of important issues, including cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Israel. Thus, the involvement and role of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova through international Jewish organizations to promote the image of the country and its interests was noted.
“Together we discovered the existence of an untapped potential for cooperation in the field of deepening our country’s foreign economic relations, in particular with the State of Israel,” said Minister Nicu Popescu.
Also, the parties discussed the issues of perpetuating the memory of the Holocaust included in the National Action Plan and combating anti-Semitism in Moldova. Special attention was paid to the issues of restitution of communal property.
Mr. Nicu Popescu is a diplomat, researcher and foreign policy expert. He has previously worked at research centers in Brussels (CEPS), London (ECFR) and Paris (EUISS). He is the author of more than 60 scientific publications and books in the field of foreign and security policy.
