On January 27, the international community marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the millions of innocent lives lost and underscores the importance of preserving historical memory to prevent such atrocities from ever happening again.
The #WeRemember campaign, a global initiative by the World Jewish Congress, aims to raise awareness about the Holocaust and combat antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and all forms of hatred. This year, Moldova once again joined this meaningful initiative, ensuring that the memory of the past remains a guiding lesson for the future.

🔹 Social Media Awareness Campaign
Government representatives, diplomats, public figures, educational institutions, and citizens participated in the #WeRemember initiative by sharing photos and messages about the importance of remembrance.
🔹 Parliament Building Illumination
A defining moment of the campaign was the projection of the #WeRemember symbol on the Parliament building of the Republic of Moldova—a powerful statement reinforcing national commitment to remembrance and the fight against antisemitism.
The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova actively coordinated and facilitated these commemorative events, engaging educational and cultural institutions, as well as international partners, to raise awareness.
President of the Jewish Community, Alexander Bilinkis, emphasized that remembering the past is not just a duty to those who perished—it is the foundation upon which we build a future free from hatred and intolerance.
Memorial Week is more than a series of events; it is a commitment to fostering a society that values tolerance, education, and historical truth. As Holocaust denial and antisemitism persist globally, initiatives like #WeRemember play a crucial role in countering misinformation and ensuring that future generations learn from history.
The Jewish Community of Moldova remains dedicated to initiatives that safeguard historical memory and promote education. Through remembrance, we take a stand against hatred and work toward a future where such tragedies never happen again.
Let us remember. Let us educate. Let us stand together.
