Our Projects
The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova implements projects in the fields of education, culture, social assistance, and historical memory preservation, strengthening the community and passing on Jewish heritage to future generations.
What We Do
Projects That Unite and Preserve
Education, culture, social support, and historical memory, the areas in which the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova works every day.
Publishing Projects
We publish books, collections, historical documents, and educational materials that preserve the memory of Jewish life in Moldova. Each publication is a contribution to the cultural heritage of the community and a tool for passing knowledge on to future generations.
Educational Projects
Education is the foundation of Jewish identity. We develop programmes for children, youth, and adults that support a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and traditions of the Jewish people.
Supporting Jewish Culture
Jewish culture is vibrant, multifaceted, and an integral part of Moldova’s heritage. We support cultural initiatives, festivals, exhibitions, and creative projects.
Religious Activity
We support the religious life of the Jewish community in Moldova — synagogues, holidays, rituals, and spiritual practices.
Combating Antisemitism
Intolerance has no place in modern society. We actively combat antisemitism through education, monitoring, legal protection, and cooperation with state institutions and international organisations.
Social Projects
Care for people is at the heart of our work. We provide social support to the elderly, vulnerable groups, and families in need.
Cultural-Historical Heritage Preservation and Memorial Projects
We document, restore, and conserve monuments, archives, and places of memory. Memorial projects keep the past alive and cultivate respect for human dignity.
International Cooperation and Public Diplomacy
he Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova is part of the global Jewish community. We develop partnerships with international organisations, embassies, and Jewish communities around the world.
Beyond Words: From Testimony to Visual Storytelling in Holocaust Education (BW:ViS)
Beyond Words: From Testimony to Visual Storytelling in Holocaust Education — BW:ViS
is a project coordinated by the “Elie Wiesel” National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania, carried out in partnership with the “Moldova” National Museum Complex in Iași, the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, and the Wiesenthal Institute in Vienna, Austria, and funded by the European Commission through the CERV-2025-CITIZENS-REM-HOLOCAUSTJEW programme.
BW-ViS runs during the period 2026–2028 and is implemented in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, and Austria, bringing together teachers, education experts, visual arts experts, students, journalists, and gender studies experts from the three countries, to analyze the challenges and opportunities in Holocaust education and the role of visual materials in supporting this process. Through transnational collaboration and the development of a set of educational tools, the project brings to the attention of the European public the lesser known history of the Jewish communities who, between 1941 and 1944, were subjected to discrimination and were targeted by pogroms and deportations to Transnistria.
For the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, participation in this project is an opportunity to keep alive the memory of the Jewish communities of Bessarabia and to pass on the lessons of this history to younger generations. Through the power of visual storytelling, we aim to turn the testimonies of the past into a living tool for education, dialogue, and the defense of democratic values, so that “beyond words,” memory remains a bridge between generations.
