We were preparing for Purim on the day that war started in Ukraine. February 24th 2022 was a day when lives were upended and changed forever. It was also a day that brought new responsibilities and a renewed sense of purpose for our organization, the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova.

Ever since that day, hundreds of people with broken lives from the Jewish communities of Ukraine have been crossing the border to safety in Moldova. We are working day and night to help them during these terrible times.

We are grateful to everyone who helps our Ukrainian friends: those who meet and accommodate families, bring humanitarian aid, provide financial support for those who need it, and support in many other ways. We cannot stop the war, but we can help those people who come face to face with it.

Alexander Bilinkis, President of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova.
