On 8 September 2026, the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova organised a special author-curated guided tour at the National Museum of Art of Moldova, dedicated to the works of artists of Jewish origin represented in the Museum’s collection.
The event was held within the III edition of the National Festival of the European Days of Jewish Culture (EDJC) 2026 and brought together ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, diplomats, representatives of partner organisations and friends of the Jewish Community.
Created especially for the Festival, this unique thematic tour offered guests an opportunity to discover an important and fascinating chapter of Moldova’s artistic heritage through the works and stories of Jewish artists whose creativity became an integral part of the country’s cultural landscape.
Among the artists presented during the tour were Moisei Gamburd, Esther Grecu, Ada Zevin, Lazar Dubinovschi, Antoine Irisse, Tamara Grecu, Brunhilda Epelbaum-Marcenco, Naum Epelbaum and other remarkable artists representing the Jewish artistic heritage of Moldova. Their works provided a starting point not only for a conversation about art, but also about identity, memory, cultural dialogue and the contribution of Jewish artists to the development of Moldovan culture.
The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova sees this initiative as more than a one-time event. We are currently working on the digitalisation of the tour, which will make this important part of our cultural heritage accessible to a wider audience. A dedicated publication presenting the artists, their works and their stories is also being prepared and will be presented soon.
