Today, March 2, 2025 (2 Adar II 5785), a landmark event took place at the “Beit Yosef” synagogue for the Jewish Community of Moldova — the solemn dedication of a new Torah Scroll.
This sacred gift was made possible through the generosity of patrons Alexander Rovt and Yuri Drukker, whose acts of kindness strengthen Jewish heritage and support Jewish life in Moldova.
This day became a true celebration for the entire community. Words of greeting were delivered by the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Moldova Joel Lion, the Director General of the Agency for Interethnic Relations Veaceslav Riabchinski, the Vice Mayor of Chișinău Angela Cutasevici, as well as spiritual and secular leaders of the community. Vice President of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova Shabatai Hanucaev highlighted the significance of the event, noting that the dedication of a Torah Scroll is not merely a religious tradition, but also a symbol of the revival and strengthening of Jewish life in the country. He presented guests with symbolic bronze-cast scrolls as a token of gratitude in memory of this occasion, repeating the words from Holy Scripture inscribed on the figurines: all Jews are responsible for one another.
Words of blessing were offered by the Rabbi of Or-Yehuda and Chief Rabbi of Rehovot Tzion Cohen, and Rabbi Rachamim Belenki, in whose synagogue the new Torah Scroll was placed. The ceremony concluded with joyful dancing with the Torah Scroll to live Jewish music.
This event is truly unique, as the dedication of a new Torah Scroll is a rare and special moment in the life of any Jewish community. It bears witness to the fact that traditions continue to live on, passed down from generation to generation, and that Jewish life in Moldova is growing stronger and flourishing.
May this new Torah Scroll bring the community blessing, peace and prosperity! Mazal Tov!
